Compostable coffee capsules

coffee

The Eden Project has launched a new range of home compostable coffee capsules to address the problem of waste plastic[8]. The new capsules break down into simple raw materials in a domestic compost heap in a few weeks.

The packaging for the capsules is made from card and printed using vegetable-based inks, which can be recycled. This means that 100% of the product is compostable or recyclable. They are compatible with Nespresso coffee machines and have just gone on sale in Waitrose supermarkets.

The disposal of used coffee capsules – often made with a mixture of plastic and aluminium – is a growing problem for the environment.
