1. Contents and recommended word lengths
The online version contains the following sections:

  • Features – informative articles designed to keep fellow food science professionals in touch with developments in areas other than their own
    Recommended length: 1450 – 2850 words
  • Opinion – An invited comment piece
    Recommended length: 700 words
  • Considered Comment – A thoughtful look or responses on topical news items or current trends
    Recommended length: 700 words
  • Blogs – Casually written pieces on topics relating to food science and technology, designed to reflect the style of the writer
    Recommended length: 700 words
  • A window on… - An overview of current R&D at a food research centre
    Recommended length: 1450 – 2150 words
  • News - covering International and Home News, IFST News, Conference proceedings
    Recommended length: Around 200 words
  • Careers and Training – Newsworthy items relating to careers and training as well as case studies
    Recommended length: News items – Around 200 words, Case studies & other – 1450-2150 words
  • Book Reviews
    Recommended length: 700 – 1450 words

Please note that the recommended lengths are for your guidance. We are happy to admit articles above or below our recommended lengths (within reason, please).
Letters to the editor and user comments are also welcomed. We allow those who are IFST members and subscribers to the publication to comment on articles. Please let us know if, for some reason, you would prefer this feature to be disabled.

2. Submission of artwork
We welcome and strongly encourage the submission of images and other media including, but not limited to: video, audio, YouTube links and external links.
Colour photographs with description. If you have original photographs, please submit these in preference to an image scanned by yourself. 
Figures. Save each figure as a separate file. Please avoid PowerPoint illustrations if possible.

Graphs/Histograms/Charts. Please ensure that the different lines and points are clearly distinguishable. 

3. Copyright
By submitting a manuscript, the author(s) agree that the copyright for their article is transferred to FS&T if and when the article is accepted for publication. The copyright covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including re-prints, photographic reproductions of a similar nature and translations. An Agreement is available from the Editor for signature.

Alternatively, authors may wish to retain copyright and grant FS&T permission to publish. The author(s) must assert this right.

4. Proofs
Proofs will be checked for errors by the Editor. These are not normally provided to authors.
